Inauguration of the season of the Traveling Cinema Isonzo - Kino Soča in Sant'Andrea/Štandrež
A long summer dedicated to cinema is about to begin, full of film events under the stars proposed by Kinoatelje in cooperation with numerous partners from the wider cross-border territory. The Traveling Cinema Isonzo - Kino Soča comes to life, and its first stop, in accordance with the tradition of our open-air events, will take place in Sant'Andrea/Štandrež. On June 13 and 14 at the Andrej Budal Cultural Center, Kinoatelje and the cultural association Oton Župančič, will inaugurate the new season of pleasant outdoor gathering under the light of the film projector. This will be the seventh time that this program takes place.
Cross-Border Film Horizons, the short film program, is set to take place on Thursday, June 13, at 9 p.m. The shorts tell the story of cross-border identity. This section of the festival was conceived in memory of the cultural legacy of Aleš Doktorič (1960-2022), a professor, publicist, cultural producer and president of Kinoatelje, who during his life contributed to the production of about 20 audiovisual works. Three of these will be played at the festival, the program also includes two short films from Kinoatelje's most recent film production. Dario Frandolič and Giulio De Paolis, authors of the shorts, will be pleasant guests of the event.
The following day, Friday, June 14, at 9 p.m., there will be a documentary about Melania Trump, one of America's most controversial first ladies. The film will be shown for the first time with Italian subtitles, and there will be Jurij Gruden, the director, who is from Trieste. Before the film, a short directed by Gregor Božič, “A mia madre” (2005), will be played. He collaborated as director of photography on the short film “The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent”, directed by Nebojša Slijepčević, which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year.
After the opening of the Traveling Cinema Isonzo - Kino Soča in Sant'Andrea/Štandrež, the film caravan will head to other traditional stops, such as the Silvan Furlan open-air in Nova Gorica. Our long-standing partners, with whom we organize Cinema in the Woods (Kanal ob Soči), Cinema Belvedere (San Pietro al Natisone) and Grgar open-air cinema, are still cooperating with us. The new stops, however, are both in the North (Bovec) and in the South (Prebeneg). We will also take Traveling Cinema Isonzo - Kino Soča to the magnificent gardens of villas, such as Villa Rafut in Nova Gorica and Villa De Nordis in Gorica, both very close to our border, and we will immerse ourselves in the picturesque landscapes along the Soča River, where we are hosted by the Sajeta festival. The caravan will also reach places at high altitude such as the open-air of Lokve and the mysterious San Daniele.
The Traveling Cinema Isonzo - Kino Soča is a network of cultural venues on both sides of the border that draws on offering greater and more equal accessibility to quality cinema in the cross-border area between Slovenia and Italy. Cinema is making its way throughout the cross-border area, from the source to the mouth of the Soča River. The aim is spreading film culture to places outside urban centers where there is currently no adequate infrastructure for quality film projections. Each event evokes a unique contact between the environment and the images, as one never enters the same cinematic river twice. The Traveling Cinema Isonzo - Kino Soča is part of the Go Green Cinema project, which targets a cross-border audience, local residents, occasional foreign visitors, and participants of the GO! 2025 European Capital of Culture programs. The project is funded by the European Union under the GO! 2025 Small Project Fund of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 Program, managed by the EGTC GO.
