On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the Transalpina Railway, the permanent exhibition “The Bohinj/Transalpina Railway: One Track for Three Peoples along the Soča/Isonzo”, displayed in the entrance hall of Nova Gorica railway station since late 2019, has been updated.

The EGTC GO has added a new exhibition panel highlighting the major developments and innovations of recent years: the modernization of Nova Gorica railway station, the redevelopment of Europe/Transalpina Square, the GO! 2025 European Capital of Culture, and the introduction of new trains on the Bohinj/Transalpina Railway. The exhibition also looks ahead to the future, presenting further upgrading works planned along the line and the forthcoming completion of the renovation of Trieste Campo Marzio, the terminus of the Bohinj/Transalpina Railway. The station will host a railway museum, a panoramic venue, and a railway-themed hotel, and will also serve as a departure and arrival point for tourist trains. The exhibition therefore no longer tells only the history of the line, but also its present and future.

The new panel was presented during the press conference of the SPF GO! 2025 Time4Train project, held on Wednesday, 23 September. The 120th anniversary of the Transalpina Railway will be celebrated on Friday, 2 October, at EPIC Nova Gorica. The programme, entitled “120 Years of Stories. 120 Ideas for the Future. Time for Train.”, will run from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m..

The morning session will focus on the future of sustainable mobility and public transport, with particular attention to the integration of bicycles and trains. The afternoon programme will be devoted to cultural activities, including a literary discussion on railway travel and borders, followed by the award ceremony of a photography competition dedicated to the Bohinj/Transalpina Railway.

The Municipality of Nova Gorica is also taking part in the celebrations of the railway’s 120th anniversary. On Saturday, 3 October, at 3:00 p.m., a special aerial event is scheduled: an aircraft will fly beneath the great arch of the Solkan Bridge.

On its 120th anniversary, the Bohinj/Transalpina Railway continues to serve as a space of connection: between the Alps and the Adriatic, between places and people, between past and future, and between the journeys and stories that emerge along its route.
