From 10 to 12 June 2026, the EGTC GO took part in the Third Joint Transnational Strategic Workshop of the GOV4PeaCE project, hosted in Ypres (Belgium). The event brought together international partners, experts and local stakeholders to evaluate project results and advance cooperation on the governance of World War I heritage.

The visit took place within the framework of the Interreg CE GOV4PeaCE project and included a delegation from the EGTC GO together with representatives of local stakeholders. Due to synergies between initiatives, it also falls within the scope of the Interreg Italy–Slovenia BeWoP (Beyond Walk of Peace) project, in which the EGTC GO participates as a partner, while it is an associated partner of GOV4PeaCE.

Throughout the three-day programme, the EGTC GO delegation actively contributed to discussions aimed at strengthening transnational cooperation and sharing best practices.

The workshop opened on 10 June with evaluation sessions dedicated to assessing progress across the GOV4PeaCE work packages. Discussions addressed financial and communication aspects, the results achieved, and the development of key tools such as the CEWoP governance model and the transnational action plan. Participants also worked towards a draft agreement for establishing a long-term transnational governance platform.

The second day focused on the Westhoek region as a case study, highlighting how cultural heritage and memory sites can support regional and tourism development. The programme included a visit to the In Flanders Fields Museum and guided tours of significant historical sites, offering practical insights into heritage valorisation.

The event concluded on 12 June with a public forum presenting the project’s main achievements. Panels explored overall results, lessons learned in participating territories, and the contribution of GOV4PeaCE to improving governance models for WWI heritage while shaping future transnational perspectives.

Through its participation, the EGTC GO reaffirmed its commitment to fostering cross-border cooperation and strengthening governance mechanisms in the field of cultural heritage, contributing to the development of sustainable transnational frameworks for the promotion of shared European heritage.
