The press conference for the presentation of GOin4SAFETY was held yesterday morning in the Sala Bianca of Gorizia City Hall. This cross-border event, taking place from June 5 to 8, 2025, will transform the area between Gorizia, Nova Gorica, and Šempeter-Vrtojba into a laboratory of cooperation, safety, and resilience.

GOin4SAFETY is a major cross-border civil protection drill born out of the European project IN4SAFETY, funded by the Interreg Italy–Slovenia Programme. The exercise will involve over 500 civil protection operators, security forces, volunteer organizations, and local authorities from Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Slovenia, and teams from Croatia, Austria, and Germany. The initiative aims to strengthen preparedness and coordination in emergency management by simulating complex scenarios related to earthquakes, landslides, wildfires, hazardous materials incidents, and other climate change-related risks.

GOin4SAFETY stands as a tangible example of European cooperation at the local level, promoting a culture of prevention, shared risk management, and the safety of both territory and communities.

During the press conference, institutional and technical representatives of the partnership took the floor: Rodolfo Ziberna, Mayor of Gorizia; Samo Turel, Mayor of Nova Gorica; Tadej Beočanin, Mayor of Ajdovščina; Francesco Del Sordi, Councillor for Civil Protection of the Municipality of Gorizia; Borut Mihelj, Exercise Coordinator in Slovenia and representative of Gasilska Enota Nova Gorica; Daniele Del Bianco, Director of ISIG – International Institute of Sociology of Gorizia; Romina Kocina, Director of the EGTC GO; Lucija Sila, Deputy Director for Cross-Border Cooperation of GO!2025.

Romina Kocina, Director of the EGTC GO, emphasized how this exercise aligns with the organization’s strategic vision: “Our support fits into the path of collaboration already tested during the wildfire emergency in the Karst. It’s a direction we’ve decided to strengthen.
