The GO! 2025 sailboat Barraonda in 12th place at this year's Barcolana
56. Barcolana, the largest group-start regatta in the world, which took place on 13 October in the Gulf of Trieste, also featured Barraonda, which carries the logo of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025. With an Italian-Slovenian crew led by Lucio Provvidenti, she came in an excellent 12th place out of 1,757 boats, and won her category for the ninth year in a row.
Starting from the start line in front of Barcola, the boats headed first towards Muggia, where the first buoy was set, on a beautiful autumn day, with 20 degrees in the sea, and shortly afterwards they made another tack and headed towards Miramare, returning to Trieste, all the way to the finish line in front of Piazza Unità. Barraonda took less than two hours to complete the entire journey. Arca was the first boat to reach the finish line, while the Italian Prosecco doc Shockwave 3 came through second.
"Our Born to Win slogan brings together lovers of the sea and sailing who have combined their passions to make a name for themselves in racing with Barraonda. The story of the boat tells the story of an open world, of teamwork based on camaraderie, perseverance, discipline and a spirit of community and teamwork, where it doesn't matter who speaks which language," said Lucio Provvidenti, Team Leader of this 40-foot top racing boat (11.99 metres) made of carbon fibre and with a raked keel designed by German Frers Jr., about the mission of Barraonda, designer and multiple America's Cup winner.
