Citizen Updates: Site Information
This page is dedicated to collecting practical information about the redevelopment work on the historic Transalpina - Europe Square. Here you will be able to find the latest updates on the progress of the work and details on changes to the road system.
12/2/2024 | OPENING OF THE CONSTRUCTION SITE |
22/4/2024 |
Kolodvorska street (SLO) closed to traffic. Traffic will be diverted onto nearby Solkan. Pedestrians will still be able to cross the square and access Nova Gorica railway station. Read the news (LINK). |
2/5/2024 | The entire square will be completely closed off for the needs of the construction site. The mosaic in the centre of the square, which will be covered up to protect it from any damage caused by the works, will not be accessible until the completion of the construction site, presumably by the end of 2024. Information about the square and historical photographs will be available on temporary information panels that will be installed shortly. Pedestrians will be able to access Nova Gorica station from Kolodvorska street on the Slovenian side and from Catterini street on the Italian side. |
8/11/2024 | END OF THE WORKS |

(*) Umarell (Italian spelling of the Bolognese Emilian word umarèl, Emilian pronunciation: [umaˈrɛːl]; plural umarî) are men of retirement age who spend their time watching construction sites, especially roadworks – stereotypically with hands clasped behind their back and offering unwanted advice to the workers.
