Welcome to the information section for the redevelopment project of the Transalpina/Europe Square, which sits on the border between Italy and Slovenia and the cities of Gorizia and Nova Gorica. The square is a symbol of crossborder cooperation and the heart of the celebrations for the year of the European Capital of Culture - GO! 2025.

Here you can learn more about the cross-border project behind the redevelopment and find out more about the history of this fascinating square.

In 2025, Piazza Transalpina - Europe Square hosted numerous cross-border events, starting from the inauguration of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia to the 2025 edition of the Friendship March, two highlights of the GO! 2025 program.
It has also been chosen as the setting of a variety of cultural events, including Rossini’s opera Il viaggio a Reims and a concert by pianist Alexander Gadjiev, as well as sporting events such as the 14th stage of the Giro d’Italia and the Jumping over Boundaries event.
