Water and land routes
The STARWAYS project promotes sustainable and accessible tourism in the cross-border area between Italy and Slovenia. It enhances inland waterways and cycle paths, and promotes social inclusion and intergenerational exchange. The project aims to develop new tourist itineraries and improve existing ones in the Friuli Riviera Community and the Vipava Valley by integrating cycle paths and waterways in the Marano lagoon, as well as intermodal connections in the Vipacco Valley. Activities include mapping and analysing routes, trialling intermodal 'Bike+Boat' and 'Bike+Bus' services, engaging older people in collecting local memories and stories, and creating multimedia materials based on this content with the help of young people. Young cycle guides will also be trained to lead cycle tours and assist people with reduced mobility. All information and routes will be accessible via the cross-border platform (www.bike-alpeadria.eu), which promotes integrated, slow, inclusive and environmentally friendly tourism.
