Monte Sabotino: request for quotes for the project to enhance the historical area
Restore artifacts and monuments of great historical value, make the military road accessible and safe for hiking and cycling tourism, recover fortifications and tunnels, improve accessibility, and equip the area with adequate signage and furnishings: these are the main activities covered by the notice published in recent days on the official website of EGTC GO, through which quotes are being requested for project design.
The initiative, concerning the Italian side of Monte Sabotino, is part of the project “Beyond Walk of Peace – BeWoP”, funded by the European Union through the Interreg Italy–Slovenia VI-A 2021–2027 Programme. The lead partner is the Fundacija Poti miru of Kobarid (Caporetto), while EGTC GO is one of the partners and has approximately €194,000 available for all design-related activities.
The scope of the contract described in the EGTC GO notice, published on March 18 and open until April 2, involves the preparation of a detailed design based on the feasibility study prepared by Dr. Marco Pascoli, which was presented last year to the press and local stakeholders. The project must allow for a complete definition of the interventions, necessary for launching the approval process and for the subsequent implementation of the works.
Specifically, the project will concern the restoration of epigraphic and monumental artifacts related to World War I and the Cold War (monuments, boundary stones, inscriptions, fortifications, tunnels), the upgrading of the existing military road for cycling and hiking use (including maintenance of the vegetation along the road), the setup and improvement of parking areas (with related dedicated access roads) along the ring road parallel to the “Strada di Osimo”, and the creation of a coordinated system of route signage and informational panels. This will also include this missing ring within the more than 500 km of Walk of Peace itineraries, using the heritage protection and promotion model already adopted across the cross-border area.
The work must be carried out in close coordination with EGTC GO, the Municipality of Gorizia, the Military Authorities, and the author of the feasibility study, in order to ensure respect for the historical and symbolic value of the sites, as well as compliance with necessary safety conditions.
The total estimated amount for the contract is €20,000, including VAT and charges. At present, the available resources cover only the design phase. Interested economic operators may submit their quotations by 12:00 noon on April 2, 2026, exclusively via email or certified email (PEC), in accordance with the procedures indicated in the notice.
With this initiative, EGTC GO continues its commitment to the shared enhancement of cross-border historical and landscape heritage, strengthening the connection between memory, territory, cultural tourism, and sustainable development.
