The Interreg project BeWop has started

At the Peace Monument in Cerje (Slovenia) the project BeWoP - Beyond Walk of Peace: from Crossborder Historical Research and Cultural Heritage to European Trail and Stories, co-financed by the European Union in the framework of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme, with the Fundacija Poti miru v Posočju as lead partner and the participation as project partners of GECT GO, PromoTurismo FVG, ZRC SAZU, the Association èStoria and the Municipality of Miren- Kostanjevica.

The presentation took place in the hall, crowded for the occasion, in the presence of the project partners and some representatives of the associated partners from Slovenia (Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Defence, Slovenian Tourist Board and National Liberation Museum of Maribor), Italy (European Wildlife Management Association, Italian Historical War Museum, M9 Museo del ‘900, Associazione Amici delle Alpi Carniche, Friuli Storia Association), Belgium (In Flanders Field Museum) and Poland (Euroregion Karpacki and Jagellonian University Krakow).

Speakers included the mayor of Miren Kostanjevica Mauricij Humar, the undersecretary of state at the Slovenian Ministry of Defence Rudi Medved, Slovenian MP Uroš Brežan, former mayor of Tolmin, the director of the Directorate for Tourism of the Slovenian Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sport Dubravka Kalin, the artistic advisor of GO! 2025 Neda Rusjan Bric, the general director of PromoTurismoFVG Antonio Bravo, the councillor of the Municipality of Gorizia Francesco Del Sordi and Andreja Grom for the Interreg Italy-Slovenia Programme. The institutional representatives emphasised the importance of peace as a founding value of the project and the opportunity that cultural tourism linked to World War I sites offers for the development of the entire border area.

The project part was presented by Maša Klavora (project leader, Fundacija Poti miru v Posočju), and by the respective project managers of the individual project partners Ezio Benedetti (GECT GO), Petra Svoljšak (ZRC SAZU) Nicola Revelant (PromoTurismoFVG), Tina Gerbec (Municipality of Miren Kostanjevica) and Adriano Ossola (èStoria).

The project is worth almost EUR 1.3 million, 80% of which is covered by Interreg funds and 20% by the project partners. Activities started in April 2024 and will end in October 2026.
