Il Libro delle 18.03 – This evening at the Kulturni Dom in Gorizia

09.10.2025
Kulturni Dom, Gorizia
Libro 18.03

This evening, Thursday, October 9th at 18:03, a new event in the Il libro delle 18.03 literary series will take place at the Kulturni Dom in Gorizia. This year, the series focuses on the themes of territory and borders.

The guest of the evening will be writer and journalist Mimmo Sammartino, who will present his novel Nostra Regina dei burroni e delle mosche (“Our Queen of Ravines and Flies”) – an intense and poetic story about the absurdity of war, narrated by an unusual and powerful voice: that of a donkey crossing the battlefields of the First World War along the Isonzo front.

The event will be introduced by Romina Kocina, Director of the EGTC GO, and the conversation with the author will be led by Ezio Benedetti, Project Manager at the EGTC.

In this context, Benedetti will offer a reflection on the value of memory and storytelling in relation to historical places, with reference to the European project BeWoP – Beyond Walk of Peace, in which the EGTC GO is involved. The project aims to enhance the cultural and sustainable value of areas marked by the First World War along the border, promoting an integrated approach to the interpretation of historical heritage, while strengthening cross-border cooperation and European awareness.

The event represents a meaningful collaboration involving the EGTC GO and held under the patronage of the Matera-Basilicata 2019 Foundation, establishing a symbolic link between two geographical extremes of Italy: from the author’s native Basilicata to the eastern border that serves as the backdrop to the novel.
