GO! SAIL: Barraonda, a boat that unites

14.11.2025
Piazza Vittoria, Gorizia
Barraonda

From 14 to 16 November, Barraonda – the GO! 2025 sailing boat – will be showed in Piazza Vittoria, Gorizia, for the event GO! SAIL: three days to discover the boat, its crew, and the values it represents.

Designed by German Frers (one of the world’s greatest yacht designers) together with Lucio Provvidenti, Barraonda is a 12-metre sailboat built in carbon fibre with a canting keel, conceived outside all traditional schemes.

Barraonda’s cross-border journey began in 2022, when mayors Matej Arčon and Rodolfo Ziberna decided to symbolically unite the communities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia – a gesture rich in meaning, marking the start of a friendship without borders and a shared commitment to chart new courses of cooperation and dialogue.

From that shared course grew a close collaboration with the EGTC GO, culminating in the support for the GO! 2025 – European Capital of Culture candidacy. Since then, Barraonda has become its ambassador, promoting projects and values that demonstrate how sport, and sailing in particular, can be a true school of life.

Barraonda is not just a sailboat: it is a symbol of GO! 2025 – Nova Gorica and Gorizia European Capital of Culture, a message of strength, innovation, and connection between the sea, the territory, and the community. Led by a mixed Italian–Slovenian crew, it has made the international visibility of the region an integral part of its mission.

Now it is time to tell this story — to explain how and why Barraonda has come this far, and to highlight a journey that speaks not only of a boat, but above all of the people who, together with it, have reached remarkable goals.

This is how the event “The Power of Dreams – Barraonda that Unites” and the short film “A Dream Called Barraonda” were born: two events that invite us to believe in the power of people, the strength of unity, and the importance of overcoming every border to build something extraordinary together.

On the afternoon of Friday, 14 November, the short film “A Dream Called Barraonda”, produced by the students of Liceo Slataper in Gorizia under the guidance of Professor Marco Luciano, will be presented and screened for the first time on the big screen at the Kinemax Gorizia.
A story of collaboration, friendship, and shared visions between Gorizia and Nova Gorica — a story of dreams that unite and boundaries that are overcome together.
