Below you will find some information about the events and links for more details:

03/08/2024, 20:30, Ljubljana, Narodna galerija, Concert Bor Zuljan - P-S project

Described by Le Soir magazine as ‘the lute revolutionary’, Bor Zuljan has an excellent command of a variety of ancient, contemporary and traditional percussion instruments. He is dedicated to reviving improvisation techniques, performance styles, instruments and forgotten sounds. Besides being a soloist and chamber musician, he is also the artistic director of the Flores Musicae Early Music Festival. His critical edition of Gorzanis' second lute book, published by the Institute of Musicology of the ZRC SAZU, includes compositions that he recorded with the La Lyra ensemble and the Italian singer Pino De Vittorio for the album La barca del mio amore. This was only the first of many award-winning albums he released on the Arcana - Outhere Music label. The recent Toutes les nuits, recorded with the duo Dulces Exuviae, received several awards, including the Diapason d'Or, and was chosen as disc of the month by Gramophone magazine.

Bor is currently working on his dissertation on improvisation on the lute in the 16th century as part of his doctoral studies at the University of Tours. Since autumn 2023, he has also been a professor of lute and basso continuo at the Claudio Abbado School of Music in Milan. With his unique approach to historical improvisation, he will add a unique historical aspect to the concerts of the Festival degli Incroci - Sconfinamenti.

The itinerant cinema Isonzo-Kino Soča, which connects the open-air locations in the cross-border territory between Slovenia and Italy, will propose on 8 August at 9 p.m. a new event, this time on the border between Nova Gorica and Gorizia. The Villa De Nordis open-air cinema will come to life for the first time, set in a unique location, where the border suddenly deviates 90 degrees around the isolated villa, thus keeping it in Italy. For the occasion, the musical film Gloria! directed by Margherita Vicario, crowned with the Nastro d'Argento for best soundtrack, will be screened. The actress playing one of the roles in the film, Anita Kravos, will also attend the screening.

Before the event, at 7 p.m., there will be a guided tour of the villa, for which we kindly ask you to send your reservation to press@kinoatelje.it, as the number of places is limited. Participation fee 10 eur.

The event is organised by Kinoatelje in collaboration with the Villa De Nordis and the two festivals Homage to a Vision and the Days of Light of Spilimbergo, and is part of the official programme of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025.

16/08/2024, 21.00, Island ARC, Plezzo Airport - open-air cinema - GGC project

The Soča-Kino Soča cinema association, which aims to establish new film locations outside the classic urban centres, this year launches the Bovec open-air cinema. The first event, which combines the forces of two associations to create the magical experience of enjoying a film under the stars, will take place on 16 August 2024 at 9 p.m. in the beautiful surroundings where the Soča River rises. The open-air event will take place on ARC Island, at the Bovec Airport, where we will screen the film Red Boogie directed by Karp Godina, with English subtitles.

After World War II, a radio station sends a group of young musicians into the field, to the workplaces of workers' brigades, agricultural cooperatives and construction sites. Their task is to lift people's spirits. While trying to entertain people with their music, the young musicians find themselves in an unusual situation: they have to try to become more patriotic, as their jazz and boogie music is labelled as imperialist.

The event is organised by Kinoatelje in cooperation with the ARC Bovec, and is part of the official programme of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025.

Admission is free. In the event of rain, the screening will take place in the Stregulčeva hiša hall.

21/08/2024, 20.00, Pečno Park, Pečno 4, Kanal ob Soči, cinema in the woods - GGC project

We host the filmmaker Ema Kugler.

Once Upon a Time in the Soča Valley, Ema Kugler, 2024, 90', sub ita

The film is based on traditions collected by Pavel Medvešček in and around the Soča Valley. The bearers of the oral tradition were the ‘uncles’, as they called unmarried men who had no right to inheritance and lived as servants on the fringes of society. Over the years, Medvešček gained their trust and thus broke the pact of silence, to which they were bound by forced Christianisation, and told them everything they knew about the ancient religion.

The event is organised by Kinoatelje in cooperation with the Pečno Park and the O.Z.O.N. Association, and is part of the official programme of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025.

Free admission. In the event of rain, the screening will take place on the following day, 22. 8. 2024. Don't forget warm clothes and to bring your own chair.

23/08/2024, 20.30, Prebeneg Park, Prebeneg open-air cinema - GGC project

We host the authors of the films

Milko Bambič: In Statu Nascendi, Radovan Čok, 2024, 50', sub ita

The film uses the plots of time and historical space to present the playful and independent personality of a controversial artist who until now has remained on the margins and relatively unknown in the art scene in central Slovenia, but a leading figure in the artistic sphere in Trieste. Among his best-known creations is the famous graphic image of the Radenska mineral water from 1931.

To My Mother, Gregor Božič, 2005, 13', sub ita + slo

The film is set in Trieste during the fascist regime, which tried in various ways to eradicate the Slovenian language. A Slovenian couple living in the Julian capital decided, out of fear, to raise their son using only the Italian language. In this way, the boy grows up as an Italian and the Slovenian language is completely alien to him. As his mother grows older, she begins to lose more and more memories of the past, except for those that are deeply rooted in her. For the first time he begins to speak to his son in his mother tongue...

The event is organised by Kinoatelje in cooperation with the Slovenian cultural club Jože Rapotec, and is part of the official programme of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025.

Admission is free. In the event of rain, the screening will take place in the Bagnoli Municipal Theatre.

Šterkijada, Igor Šterk, 2023, 77', sub ita

An intimate look at the family life of Jure Šterk, the first Slovenian to circumnavigate the world alone by sailboat. The story of this autobiographical drama, sad but at the same time funny, is meaningfully encapsulated in the film's subtitle: “Sailing around the world, passing through home.”

The event is organized by Kinoatelje in cooperation with the Grgar Cultural Circle, and is part of the official program of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025.
