EGTC GO - The European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation and the Municipality of Nova Gorica cordially invite you to the opening of the footbridge over the Soča River and the new connecting cycle path on the right bank of the river in Solkan. With this, our area will be the proud site of a new triple bridge, as the new footbridge rises over the Soča in the company of the road bridge to Goriška brda and the giant of technical culture, the Solkan stone bridge.

The European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation EGTC GO built the footbridge over the Soča River at the Kayak Center in Solkan within the project "Isonzo - Soča" financed by the Interreg Italy-Slovenia 2014-2020 programme. The footbridge enables an attractive bridging of the Soča River, and at the same time connects new intercity bicycle connections, which will be completed shortly. By building these bicycle connections on the Slovenian and Italian sides, the cities will gain new recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.

By investing in a new connecting cycle path on the right bank of the Soča River in Solkan, the municipality of Nova Gorica enabled the establishment of a connection between the footbridge and the existing cycle path in the direction of Plave and the future cycle path to Štmavr in Italy. The investment was co-financed by EKO SKLAD Slovenian Environmental Public Fund.

Residents and visitors of the territory will soon be able to take a circular route between the footbridge, Štmavr, Gorica, Nova Gorica and Solkan, or between the footbridge and the path in the direction of Goriška brda and Soška valley to the north.

It would be our great pleasure if you would join us at the ceremonial opening of the footbridge and the new bicycle connection on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 3:45 p.m. in the Kajak Center in Solkan, which will be enlivened by sports clubs from the Slovenian and Italian sides.

• the mayor of the municipality of Nova Gorica, dr. Klemen Miklavić,
• the mayor of the Municipality of Gorica (I), Rodolfo Ziberna,
• mayor of Šempeter-Vrtojba Municipality, M.Sc. Milan Turk,
• head of the Interreg Italia-Slovenia program managing body, Laura Comelli

From the Kayak Center in Solkan, accompanied by sports clubs, we will walk across the footbridge to the right bank of the Soča River, where we will be joined by the Mayor of Števerjan Municipality, Franc Padovan, the Mayor of Brda Municipality, Franc Mužič, and the Mayor of Kanal ob Soči Municipality, Tina Gerbec.

The program of the event will be coordinated by Eugene Ban.

You are welcome to come to the event on foot or by bicycle. If you arrive by car, please follow the instructions of the stewards. It will be possible to park in the Solkan Kayak Center parking lot.

In case of bad weather, the opening will be postponed.
