On Saturday 31 May, the third appointment of the year of the èStoriaBus format will be held, this time dedicated to ‘The Secondary Places of Caporetto / Kobariški okoliški kraji’. The itinerary includes a trip to two significant sites: the Kolovrat plateau and Ragogna.

Participants will walk along the paths of the Kolovrat Open-Air Museum, covering the Kolovrat-Monte Piatto-Matajur line, and enjoying a panoramic view of the Tolmin basin, the Kobarid basin and the Black Mountain sector. In this way, they will reach an exceptional vantage point of the battlefield and the Italian defensive preparations, which will enable them to better understand the dynamics of the breakthrough at Kobarid and the Italian retreat from the Isonzo/Soča to the Tagliamento.

In Ragogna, a visit to the battle museum is planned to introduce a little-known episode of the retreat, namely the desperate resistance of the Bologna Brigade, which partially rewrites the history of a retreat that has always been described as a disorderly flight.

This is a unique opportunity to take a geo-historical look at one of the most critical episodes of the Great War, and to reflect on what happened on that famous 24 October 1917.

The meeting is scheduled at 9.00 a.m. at the Valico di Casa Rossa in Gorizia; the return is scheduled at around 5.30 p.m. Participation - including accompaniment, access to places of interest and transport - is completely free. Registrations are currently open and can be made by sending an e-mail to segreteria@estoria.it, stating your name, surname, date of birth, nationality and personal telephone number.

The èStoriaBus has been developed and extended thanks to the project ‘Beyond Walk of Peace: from Crossborder Historical Research and Cultural Heritage to European Trail and Stories’, financed by the European Regional Development Fund within the framework of the Interreg VI-A ITA-SLO 2021-2027 Programme.
